Wellington way too good for Northland

The Lions had far more fire in the belly than in their two most recent losses and rarely let Northland out of their own half.

Both sides lost too much ball but Wellington used the ball they did retain far better and also had greater intent on defence as well. They dominated the scrum as well.

Lima Sopoaga kicked an early penalty before Wilson then Leiua scored in the right-hand corner.

Lachie Munro had a penalty sandwiched in between Wellington's tries but turned down two other kickable penalties only for the Taniwha to butcher both line-outs.

Munro finally decided to kick a penalty late in the half but Leiua's second try, converted by Sopoaga, left the visitors a mountain to climb in the second spell.
